David De Lira (he/they) is a queer, BIPOC lens-based artist and educator whose work poignantly captures the intersection of identity, intimacy, and environment. Born (1991) in northern Mexico, currently based in Schenectady & Syracuse, New York. De Lira holds a Master of Fine Arts in Art Photography from Syracuse University (2023) and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History & Studio Art from SUNY Albany (2019) As well as an Associate of Art in Liberal Arts from SUNY Schenectady (2017). He is currently an adjunct professor at Pratt Munson in Utica, NY. De Lira's work explores love, desire, and the ephemeral nature of life within the queer communities he inhabits. His photographic subjects—ranging from his husband and lovers to friends and those who defy traditional categorizations—are intertwined with the hauntingly beautiful landscapes of the American Northeast, creating a visual dialogue between the personal and the universal. His work has been exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally, with notable solo and group exhibitions across the United States and Germany. De Lira's work is featured in significant collections such as the Light Work Permanent Collection in Syracuse, NY, and the Candela Books & Gallery Private Collection in Richmond, VA. |
